Dependents should be added when first enrolling into the Simply Benefits Platform. However, if this was missed when enrolling or if there is a new dependent to be added, you can easily do this from your Member Portal.
1. From the Home Screen, select the icon in the top right with either your Initials or a Profile Icon. If on the desktop version of our portal, proceed to select " My Account " from the dropdown menu.
2. From here you can see all the areas of your account available for review, select the "Dependents" tab.
3. Select the "+" sign that says Add Dependent.
4. Proceed to Populate all the dependent Details.
5. Save the change. You will be prompted to submit a Change Request which requires confirmation and signature.
8. Upload any supporting documents.
9. Send the Change Request.
You group admin will be sent an email to approve the change request. After receiving approval, Simply Benefits agents will review the Change Request and implement the change.
Late Applicants
It is best to add dependents when initially enrolling into the plan to avoid Medical Underwriting.
If you are 31 days past your effective date and are adding a dependent to your account, your dependent may need to undergo a Medical Underwriting check. Based on the result of the medical underwriting process, the carrier is allowed to deny the member coverage or impose restrictions on their coverage to lower the carrier’s risk of paying for pre-existing conditions.
Exceptions to Medical Underwriting
Certain life events, such as marriage, birth, or adoption of a child, may qualify a member or dependent to be added to the benefits plan outside of the initial eligibility period without being considered a late applicant. It's important these changes are communicated as soon as possible to avoid becoming a "Late Applicant".
